COMPANY HISTORY
How BCD Systems, Inc. got started
In the beginning….
BCD Systems, Inc. was incorporated in the state of Delaware on August 24, 1979. BCD purchased a Burroughs B80 mini-computer and began providing business services such as accounts receivable processing, Medicare
.

billing and inventory control reporting. We also began processing mailing lists for various customers.
BCD became an Altos Computer Systems dealer in the early 1980's. Our staff of three people was busy with computer installations, business services and the growing direct mail part of the business. By then we had acquired a Pitney Bowes folder, a two-station inserter and various equipment for sealing, metering and affixing labels.
The middle years….
Things changed a bit in 1987. We moved from our 500 square foot office to a 1200 square foot office at 3403 Lancaster Pike. The B80 was sold because all of our business service and mailing list processing had moved to the Altos computers. We purchased a Cheshire labeling machine, additional direct mail equipment and our first PC with a laser printer so that we could print mail-merge letters. By this time, direct mail processing was well over half of our business.
BCD gradually converted from Altos computers to PC compatible computers because of a wider selection of software and the availability of computer programs specifically designed for the mailing industry. In 1994 we purchased BCC Software's Mail Manager - a program designed to standardize delivery addresses, presort for Standard and First-class mail and print addresses with barcodes.
We outgrew our space again and in September, 1995 moved to 500 First State Boulevard in First State Industrial Park.
To the present….
By the time we moved to 500 First State Boulevard BCD was concentrating exclusively on the direct mail business. We added several Bell & Howell inserters, a Bryce inkjet printer and a variety of support equipment such as folders, bursters, etc. At first, 2,500 square feet seemed to be a lot of space. The business continued to grow and we found ourselves lacking sufficient receiving and storage space. A 5,000 square foot facility at 486 First State Boulevard became available in September, 2000. We were able to configure this space to fit our exact needs and moved in November, 2000.
The biggest improvement at 486 First State Boulevard is the receiving and storage of material. We have 1600 square feet of air-conditioned storage space, pallet racks capable of holding 66 pallets and a fork lift to load and unload trucks. BCD is finally operating in a facility where space is not a constraint and we have plenty of room to grow.
The addition of a high-speed inkjet printer from MailQuip, Inc. vastly increased our production capability. We are able to affix wafer seals and print an indicia , return address and messages at the same time as printing barcoded addresses. An infra-red dryer enables us to print on glossy paper stock. In June, 2002 we added a second high-speed inkjet printer.
The future….
We continually evaluate other equipment which will help us improve and expand our service to our customers. Our goal is to provide a highly professional service starting with competent data file management and material processing through accurate barcoding of mail to achieve maximum postal discounts.
